Extraordinary Compassion from a Summer Intern

Over the last 15 years, Full Life Care has enjoyed a partnership with Teens in Public Service (TIPS), a not-for-profit dedicated to developing future leaders committed to their communities. TIPS members intern for up to two months, about 20 hours a week.
This summer, Maggie Scroggs served as a TIPS intern at our North Seattle Adult Day Health Center.
“Most of my time was spent helping clients do art, exercises, sports, or other activities to help promote their independence,” Maggie says. “But I found that it wasn’t doing the activities that brought about a change in the way I interact with people, it was the relationships I established with clients as we worked together each day.”
Stacy Christ, program manager at the adult day health center, says, “One of the core values of Full Life Care is perseverance, never giving up on people. A client was having an off day, disoriented and unable to participate, so we asked Maggie to help. Because she persevered in providing calm reassurance, the client was able to participate in her favorite activities: manicures and flower arrangements.”
At the TIPS Celebration of Service ceremony, Maggie received “Jill’s Angel Internship Award,” presented to the intern who shows extraordinary compassion and understanding of working and caring for underprivileged children and elders.
Thank you Maggie!
