SU students tackle social media overhaul
As Full Life Care begins its move toward a broader social media relaunch, a team of college students is lending a helping hand.
Lindsey Nakata, Sierra Noble and Maria Piñero are three students from Seattle University’s Communication and Media program. With less than a year left in their degrees, the trio has reached an all-important part of their time as communication majors: gaining relevant real-world experience.
Since January, the Seattle U group has managed a communication plan that seeks to expand Full Life Care’s audience and strengthen its social media reach. One main component of the team’s pitch was increasing engagement across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and — most importantly — Instagram.
“For our millennial audience and younger potential volunteers, people who want to get engaged with Full Life Care and can help spread their message,” said Nakata. “We think Instagram is a great platform to do that.”
In the next few weeks Nakata, Noble and Piñero plan to create a series of social media posts that will highlight Full Life Care’s mission, values and services. They hope to introduce the nonprofit to new audiences who might be interested in taking active roles in local organizations.
“I myself can think of so many people who would be interested in working with Full Life Care,” said Piñero. “[Full Life Care] has so many amazing core values and a lot of people are looking for new ways to connect within their community nowadays, especially now that we’re all stuck at home. Even if it means just following an account on Instagram, you feel slightly more connected to this cause.”
In addition to online posts, the students are doing work behind the scenes to collect sustainable advice for Full Life Care’s social media team. The group has been researching Google Ad Grants (a program that delivers $10,000 a month to nonprofits seeking Google Ads advertising) and studying other nonprofit organizations to learn from their social media practices. They’re also exploring collaborations with Faye Alarcon, Full Life Care’s Elderfriends intern; and Eli’s Park, a project renovating the Burke-Gilman Playground Park into an accessible and inclusive outdoor space.
