I had a stroke and was in a coma for a while. When I woke up I had to relearn how to walk, how to move, my fine-motor skills.

I’m sitting here listening to my music and working on my writing. I’m trying to keep the letters in one line. I used to take up three lines, but I’ve worked to get it in one. I used to be right handed until I had my stroke. Now I work on my letters and numbers, and my address, with my left hand. I have a list of things to work on and when I get it done, I put a line through it.

I used to teach history. I was a football coach. I never thought I’d have to come to a place like this. I come here a couple of days a week. On other days I do pilates. I do water aerobics. I come here to work on other things, like my writing.
