Sweet appreciation for Home Care staff

Six years after first stepping into South Seattle Adult Day Health Center as a service-learning student volunteer, Julia Atwood found herself at its doorstep again.
But this time, there was one key difference: a delectable three-gallon tub of ice cream in tow.
As General Manager of Salt and Straw in the heart of Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, Julia explained, “I wanted to do something to give back to the incredible people who are involved in the Full Life Care community.”
And indeed, there was no sweeter way to show appreciation to staff than surprising them with some sweet potato casserole ice cream with maple pecans.
Home Care administrative assistants Monique McDaniel and Darcy Malone packed up nearly 100 scoops of ice cream, and distributed them among home care staff in South Seattle and Federal Way.
“Building community and bringing people together in a safe way is more important now more than ever,” Darcy said. “When caregivers come in for personal protective equipment, continued education classes, or a talk with a supervisor, it is really fun to be able to give (them) a treat and brighten up their day. I mean, who doesn’t scream for ice cream?”
